Game Of Thrones 1x1: Winter Is Coming

Apr 20, 2011 15:17

I'd offer you some hollow "apologies for all the ASoIaF/Game of Thrones posts" line, but we'd both know I didn't mean it. And I love you to much to lie to you.

SEASON TWO CONFIRMED. OMG! I AM SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW. :'-]

I am adopting slightlytookish's spoiler policy. As far as plot lines go, I won't mention anything outside of the aired episodes, seeing as I know ( Read more... )

Oh my GOD. I watched this Sunday night on what, HBO?, and was impressed, intrigued and confused all at once. Confused only because I wasn't clear on whether it was supposed to be historical or what, and everyone was rocking the same accents. So it's based on a book, huh? Maybe I should read these books, eh? I've been looking for new reading material!

I AM SO PLEASED YOU WATCHED IT OMG! Seriously, the books are just my only obsession right now. Best series I've ever read, hands down. They take a little getting into, GRRM has a tendency to name every character who passes through the chapter, even if they never appear again, but once you realise that if you're SUPPOSED to remember a character then you WILL REMEMBER them, it's plain sailing. ^_^

Yeah, it's like alternate history. So it's no specific time period and set in another world. Lots of influences from medieval Europe though.

THERE WERE ROCKING MY ACCENT! :D :D :D THAT IS MY ACCENT RIGHT THERE! Sean Bean is a local lad!

I honestly couldn't recommend the books highly enough. There is so much character development - I've ended up loving people I hated and hating people I loved. Loads of weird ass ships in canon, it's just the perfect fandom. ♥

Oh WOW! Is it Sheffield? I only even know that because I remember when he was Sharpe I google stalked him and found that they had him use his native accent to play Sharpe instead of the London street accent the character actually had. Cool beans! XD

Okay, I'm gonna check these out. ♥

Yeah! I think the other actors tried to emulate Sean's accent, seeing as Winterfell is supposedly the North! :D

OMG, let me know if you read them! I'd love to know your thoughts! ♥

When he arrived in Winterfell and took his helmet off...and then shook out his hair? I may have died a little.

Heh. I was watching the show with three friends, and we were more or less delivering our own audio-commentary all the time. At that moment, at least two of us blurted out, "LOREAL - BECAUSE I'M WORTH IT!"

HAHAHAHA! And he is worth it.

Oh, I love doing that. Alas, I was watching with my parents. Re-watch on Saturday with friends though. \o/

I'm glad I'm not alone! I feel like such an idiot being so ♥_♥ about it. Especially given my favourite characters :-/. I feel like I'm selling it short (and missing the point somewhat) by being all "omg, Sandor Clegane, take me now."

But yes, it was so awesome! I cannot wait to watch it again. (And obviously I'm even more excited for next week, given the preview I saw. OTP).

I have a feeling that the shot of Sandor with that god awful hair might have been from the pilot? That first episode was a mix of scenes shot during the pilot and shot once the show was greenlit. There are other differences you can notice- Ned has his natural hair in the crypts and the banquet scenes, then a wig for the rest. Plus the original stuff was shot on film and looks a tad grainier than all the rest which was and will for now on be shot digitally.

EVERY OTHER SCENE or photo we've seen of Sandor he has his hair brushed down over the burns. It's possible it got flipped up and the hair person wasn't on their game and didn't get last looks before they shot it, but that's pretty extreme. I think they just made an AWFUL design choice in the pilot which they quickly fix and we'll never have to see again (I hope!).

*end rant*

Hahahaha.

(I had HAD to watch it twice before I could think straight, don't worry).

Haha, my initial thought was that it had been flipped up by the wind too. Oh, the constant perils of a combover. Poor Sandor. ;__;

I am in love with Jon Snow. I liked him in the books but, OMG, on the screen he is just to die for!

But my favorite will always, always be Dany. To each his own :)

He's pretty adorable, that's for sure. Does he look how you imagined? He's quite far from the Jon in my head, but I'm sure I'll get used to him!

I'm so sorry we have such different favourite characters! It's Sandor, Jaime, Sansa, Brienne, Asha, Theon, Davos and Bran for me at the moment. I just never got on with the Dothraki plot for some reason. Not Dany's fault really - she had no choice in the matter afterall! ;-)

Spoilers for later books! o_deanna April 21 2011, 11:06:29 UTC
Hahaha! I'm so glad I made you laugh. I didn't know whether to post that, it was a little graphic.

I'm so sorry about Jon Snow! I don't know what it is, I just feel like he doesn't need the love, or something. BUT HE DOES. I'm sorry Jon. He was great, you were so right about the amount of emotions he was able to convey. Again, he really doesn't look like the Jon in my head...and it's actually taking longer to sink in than with any of the other characters. Jaime has become Nikolaj in my head. Sandor is turning into Rory...no matter how desperately I try to cling on to his black hair and sharp cheekbones. XD

No helmet hair for Jaime Lannister! - HAHAHAHAHA! Too true. God, he's handsome ( ... )
