I'm not sure I can get on board with 6 day school weeks, but certainly shorter summer vacations. Most kids don't need to help harvest the crops any more, and I suspect we spend a good several years of our schooling reviewing stuff forgotten over summer break. Plus it creates a major childcare issue having the kids out of their state-sponsored daycare for 2.5 months at a time.
