From an e-mail from my employer: "Due to lack of student involvement..."

Just got an e-mail from the student union:

"Due to lack of student involvement Drag Ball has been canceled for this year. Therefore, the six-hour mandatory work commitment for the event has been rescinded as well. There will be an event in the Sco on April 10 involving several of the previously contracted Drag performers, but Drag Ball as we know it has been can canceled."

Does "lack of student involvement" mean they need students on the ground and aren't getting them? Or is involvement code for "money"?
