In between bouts of fic writing, I decided to make an icon from one of my favorite lines from At World's End. The pondering of it was today's mental vacation

I can just see it, Jack trying to barter for a breeze and ending up with a hurricane!
What worse punishment is there? A man of the sea with no water. A Captain of a sailing ship with no wind. A ship destined to be careened for eternity, a dead hunk of wood, suffering alongside him. The fact he is obsessing over the Pearl shows he cares deeply for her. Punishment is always twofold when the one you love is suffering as well.

Or a gaining a breeze and losing the ship. LOL I know the line is said in passing, but I find it pretty amusing taken literally.

Hm. I've never heard anyone analyze the scene quite that way. The Pearl has suffered a lot of punishment and mishandling before the locker, theoretically, even if you don't count the Wicked Wench years. Something to ponder...
But that one line does offer an insight to the very crux of Jack's love and life: wind, a breeze, any movement of air. Anyone who has sailed knows the hell of being becalmed. For men of the sea back then, it could mean drifting, losing their bearings and becoming lost... probably dying at sea.
He is willing to sell his soul, just to keep his ship on her course, allow her what she was meant for... and him too.
Fangirl away! I'm one of the few that think T&T deserve all the credit they can get!

Indeed. I've never sailed, but I think the idea is applicable to anyone. We all need a breeze, a sense of going somewhere or making progress.

Aye. Too bad there was already a lein on it. LOL
I wonder if he'd been able to put up with himselves any better if he/they'd been able to sail. Still seems some kind of a purgatory, although a much lesser one.
T&T deserve all the credit they can get!
Agreed. That credit may vary from person to person, but personally, they gave me an awful lot to enjoy and think about.
