More dissertation related musings. I was reading on the evolution of user interfaces(UI) and it may radically change the way a machine is used. Taking an old example of "Men In Black" whereby the controls for the car was replaced by a gold playstation stick. I'm not a mechanic, but I would think that mechanically it is possible. What would be the productivity increase if we structured work like play, then?

Possibly none, actually. The workers might be too engrossed in the meta game itself rather than work for the system to work. Sorta like working for money rather than appreciating the work itself. Hmmm...kinda explains all the worker drones.

And I think it might actually depend on the work being done.

In some ways I don't think it would be useful in jobs that have clearly defined procedures, but for jobs requiring a great degree of creativity and a willingness to metagame, it might greatly help.
