My Second Livejournal Entry

Dec 24, 2003 20:08

Dear Livejournal,

As you probably know, because other people have probably already written to you about it, it is Christmas Eve today, December 24th. The day before Jesus was born. However, one does not sense any Christmas vibes or holiday fest in the air. What do you think Livejournal, is it all because of El Niño, or has the world just ( Read more... )

news flash-mr kinney told me last year jesus was really born in mid august, but when christianity became the state religion of rome, the people did not want to change their routine of celebrating their holiday Saturnalia in late december, so christmas was put in its place. some people of roman decent still celebrate Saturnalia to this day

Dear operationart,

I happen to love Mr. Kinney as much as you think you do, thus, I do know that Jesus was not born exactly on December 25th, but my beloved Livejournal thinks that Christmas is Jesus's birthday...so I did not want to confuse it. But now that you have leaked the truth I guess I can tell my Livejournal, that it really is not Jesus's birthday tomorrow, and the whole December 25th situation was made up by Christians who felt left out when the pagans were out celebrating the Winter Solstice!!!

By the way Thank You for your concern.

Jesus was born during the summer, but the Christians do not celebrate the birth of their messiah during the winter because they felt left out of the celebrating of the pagans celebrating their high holiday. It was out of fear of persecution that they celebrate Christmas during the Roman holiday, thus the Romans might accept Christianity more if it was during the pagan holiday and also since there was still a good amount of food left from the fall harvest there would be a good amount of food to celebrate the birth of their messiah. It's a bit more complicated than people just feeling left out.

Dear Max,

I was greatly flattered that you thought I was Puru Rattan, but sadly I am not. I am sorry about the haikus, I was feeling a little bit guilty about using those as well, so there are going to be no more haikus present in my Livejournal.
