Don't all jump at once

Anyone want to give me a cool $400 so I can do my bicentennial shopping for clothes that don't have holes in them? I never have luck with the thrift stores around here (though maybe that's because I've only been to the Garment District). Also, I need worky clothes again. Like tailored black pants and the like ( Read more... )

I'm also in dire need of clothing that doesn't look like I wore it through college and a pregnancy. Oh, and did I mention that going clothes shopping causes me to break out in hives? I suggest we rob a bank and hire a personal tailor.

I absolutely approve this message. I can only spend about ten minutes in any clothing store before I start uncontrollably clawing at my skin.

Robbing a bank for tailoring is the best idea ever.

More people = less pain. That sounds like fun :) Where do you shop around here?

Depends on what I'm shopping for.
We could go to the (GASP) mall...you live close to Natick.

I can never find anything that fits me and isn't made of crap thin material. Where do you shop for good clothes? I am clothes-deficient, srsly.

You should go down to the the outlets in Wrentham. It'll help with the cost a little a bit at least.

I agree, I've had good luck with the Wrentham outlets in the past.

What you really need are a few basics that you can wear over and over again with each other -- decent looking tailored pants (blue, black, gray, brown) and then either nice sweaters or collared tops (or both! go nuts!) that go with them.

Good call. Will you be my virtual color-pairing clothing advisor? :) I have always fallen prey to the post-goth habit of buying all my clothes in black. I can't seem to like myself in other colors (at least for work).

You could do lots of colors and they would look good on you! The hard part is getting over the mental block. I used to be afraid of color but I'm not any more because I have a very fashionable friend who took me shopping and dressed me and made me realize that I look good in colors I would never have touched. Patterns, now... I'm still a little afraid of patterns, but one step at a time, eh ( ... )

I just realized today that my HS reunion is in three weeks and the last time I bought a suit was 10 years ago, around the time of the previous reunion. The suit still fits well, but it's probably time for an upgrade.

I'll definitely need a partner for that trip. Suit places hypnotize you. "So the suit, doesn't it look nice? Of course you need these matching shirts/shoes/ties/cufflinks/socks/belts/underwear. All told that comes to $7424 and 28 cents. Have a nice day!

I think it's funny that my first reaction to that was "who wears a suit to their high school reunion?" And then I realized that I went to a hippie school. :)

Yeah, suit places are dangerous. I would offer my company but it might not be helpful, as I know *absolutely* nothing about suit/tie/shirt combos. That's (oddly enough) my mom's area of expertise. But I definitely remember being in stores with her and my uncle, and before we knew it we'd picked out about $5000 worth of clothes. Then we had to put about $4000 of them back. ;)
