My books are all packed! I'm amazed, impressed, relieved, and very thankful to all who helped. Now, I go through my closets, pack a few odds and ends, and it's pretty much done

Books are nice and all but just because they're nifty doesn't mean they aren't samsara. All that stuff can really hold a person back if you get too attached to it.
Mind you, I don't hold on to everything "just because." I have a big stack of books right here that I'll sell in the next week or so.
I tried, early on, to keep them to a minimum. But there were several occasions where I regretted selling the ones I had sold. Libraries aren't normally archives, and they weed regularly, so you can't depend on them to have copies of older books. And books tend to go out of print a lot faster than they used to. So I tend to hold on to things I might need in the future--it's just easier than paying $50 for it from Powell's later.
If you've got enough books that someone is telling you you have too many, I betcha I could find some examples of things you won't need in the future. heh.
It's okay. I used to be a book hoarder too. I was raised to be that way and used to have cases and cases and cases of books and more big cartons of books that couldn't fit into the cases. I had to be forced into leaving them behind a couple times before I really accepted the freedom of not keeping my own library.

You can never have too many books. Then again, you should never let material things hold you back. Then again, books are a pretty benign Books remind us of both our spiritual and material selves. Some need more than others. I find a home without a diverse collection of books that cover a person's interests, concerns, and history to be very sterile and soulless. Then again, it's just me.
