I've been thinking for about the last year about books or guides aimed at females on the subject of masturbation. Specifically for beginners. Granted, this is because I have a female child approaching this age and I want her to not have the fear/shame/embarassment issues with masturbation that I had growing up ( Read more... )

I would say around 11 or so. I never read any books but I wish I had. I felt soooo much guilt@!

12, almost 13. I didn't feel any particular guilt about it beyond not wanting to get caught because that would be embarrassing. My parents never talked to me about sex at all, including masturbation, and I never saw any books about it until I was in my late teens and ran across a copy of the Hite Report (which seems realllly old-fashioned now).

I was YOUNG when I started masturbating - the earliest I remember is 4, but I think I was younger. I learned that there was a certain way to apply pressure that just felt AWESOME and so I did it a lot.

Because of that, unfortunately, I don't have recs. BUT. I will say that the best thing that ever happened is that my parents never talked about it being "disgusting" or whatever.

Honestly? I didn't start til I was living on my own. Probably about age 19. I might have tried a few scattered times before then, but it just didn't work. Something clicked when I was living on my own, though - maybe because there was no parent or roommate to catch me.

As for books, I read a whole lot of books that referenced masturbation, but they were mostly all feminist classics like Betty Friedan or something, which might be too far reaching for a pre-teen/early teenager.

I also remember doing it as young as 4 -- regularly but never very often, and always the same way. I had no idea what masturbation was until I was 16 though, by which time I was old enough to figure "Well, God ain't killed me for it yet, so this is proooobably bullshit." No one ever talked to me about it. I got a basic anatomical sex ed class at about 10 or 11 where they explained to all the girls that within the next few years we'd go through puberty and start bleeding and we should tell an adult if anyone touched us inappropriately or tried to get us to go somewhere alone with them ( ... )
