Can is ability, will is desire. 'No one cares enough to help me' is more depressing than 'no one is able to help me.' If no one is able to help you, then there's nothing you can do about it and might as well suck it up. If no one cares enough to help you, then you're completely alone in a sea of apathetic humanity.
So what would you rather be, unhelpable or unlovable?
