I'm not even going to get into the first one. But the second one:

(x - 4)/8 = (x + 6)/10

10 (x - 4) = 8 (x + 6)
10x - 40 = 8x + 48
10x = 8x + 88
2x = 88
x = 44

(44 - 4)/8
= 40/8
= 5

(44 + 6)/10
= 50/10
= 5

I surprisingly had fun with that. I miss maths.
