ONTD Original: Five Best K-Dramas I Watched in 2024

Nov 29, 2024 22:31

I have decided this is an annual ONTD tradition now. I make a post about K-dramas I watched over the past year and solicit everyone else's favorite dramas and we all have a good time etc etc. The last couple of years, I think I did best and worst dramas, but TBH, this year, I didn't really watch anything BAD. I watched a few dramas that were ( Read more... )

My biggest hot take from this year is that I dropped Lovely Runner lol I just could not get into it but everyone loves it so much.

Top 5 I watched this year

- Because this is my first life - I was late for this one but I LOVED it!
- Judge From Hell - what a fun show! Park Shin-Hye killed it.
- Midnight Romance in Hagwon - for the sad people like me who loved Something in the Rain
- What Comes After Love - broke me a little bit
- My Name - surprised I haven't watched this sooner.

I'm sure there were others but my memory is shit and My Drama List seems to be down atm and I can't check.

Because This Is My First Life is ALWAYS on my recommend lists; Jung So-Min is really good in it and I think the story is SUPER relatable for anyone who is either in their 20s or in their 30s-40s. I feel like if you're older, the story makes you feel less alone for feeling so lost at that age.

What Comes After Love was so good too! I cried almost every episode lmao

as a single woman in my mid-30s who cannot afford to purchase a house on my own, Because this is my First life is just so relatable it hurts, and the writing is top notch, reminds us how we are all figuring this thing out for the first time, no matter the age

I think with how quietly positive Judge From Hell has been I might watch that. I know PSH is polarizing in opinions (she's wooden to me) but with a different role that's not typecasted I expect it to be good?

I can't get myself to watch many Korean Dramas these days. I see the "attractiveness" of the main cast and I immediately get turned off. But I guess I could say that for everything at the moment. The second I see a "screen attractive" cast, even if the synopsis sounds good, I just can't get myself to watch. I'll take some British show recs since they aren't allergic to normal looking people. Going through Prime and Netflix last night, looking for something to watch was a chore.

Recently I watched
'Memories of the Alhambra' - so surprised to have enjoyed this kdrama, but the end felt incomplete
'Tomorrow'- this was good and emotional, the episode about the war veteran is a masterpiece

Thanks OP for this post

Memories of the Alhambra has been on my watch list for a while. I should make an effort to watch it soon!

And yes! Tomorrow is one of my favorites!!! It's underrated imo. The war veteran ep is fantastic, but also the comfort women ep. Like just so good.

MoA suffered from terrible pacing, the concept was there but the execution was lost towards the end, as if the writer did not have a plan to resolve the problem from the beginning.

I really loved Lovely Runner when I'm usually not a fan of youth drama.

I just don't know what is it with that drama, it just HITS.

Lovely Runner is hilarious lol, so much fillers and slapstick comedy that has nothing to do with the plot (and usually that annoys me) but it's so damn funny I end up not skipping them

The way they marketed it...I still can't decide whether it was genius or a disservice lol because it was definitely NOT what I thought it would be (in a superrrrrr good way) and I was so so so pleasantly surprised. I guess with its success it was genius but I'm sure there were some people who read the synopsis or watched the trailers who were like "oh a cliched k-drama story where a fan is in love with her idol and he ends up falling for her too" no, thanks.

I dropped QoT for Lovely Runner and I am glad I did lol. I started Lovely Runner largely in part due to Kim Hye Yoon and how silly the trailers were.
