I just got 2 books from the library so I will be starting 2025 well. I'm still setting my goal at 26 which is 1 per 2 weeks as I feel like that's motivating without being stressful. I've got quite a few on my library hold list but it should be a bit before they're available.
I was thinking what my goal should be and I also settled on 26. I only picked up reading again like 2 weeks ago for the first time since the pandemic really and finished off two 500+ page books but realistically I won't keep that pace up and don't want a crazy goal that feels like an obligation, but instead keep it fun.
Thank you for doing these posts every week, OP! I haven't read for pleasure in a few years but after going through a few of these posts this week I think next year will be when I change that. (I still read, it's just all for work.)
ugh i had such a flop reading year - 13 books (maybe i can get it to 14 if i get off the internet) this year. my attention span is awful. my goal for 2025 is any amount more than that.
I'm almost done Intermezzo by Sally Rooney so I'm rounding off my year with 18 books. Almost all great reads. Disappointed by the Familiar by Leigh Bardugo, but otherwise a very solid year. I'm still setting my goal low but I think I'll have a good reading year ahead. My tradition in the past few years is to start a new book on New Year's Day--tomorrow I'll be starting Empire of Wild by Cherie Dimaline.
My top 3 of the year: 1. Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield 2. Piranesi by Susanna Clarke 3. the Stone Sky by N.K. Jemisin
honourable mention: the Pull of the Stars by Emma Donoghue (although I guess I could just make this a top 4 lol)
I just finished it! I really liked it. I’ve only read Normal People (which I liked as well) and it is very similar in terms of writing style. Different subject matter but you can definitely tell it’s her book, some of the themes running through are similar as well.
I finished Intermezzo yesterday. I’d say it’s a departure from her other books but still very much in the same realm as far as depressed Irish people go lol. It was a really slow start for me but it picked up near the middle/end.
I finally have a plan to track my reading. I finished my book last night/this morning (couldn't sleep). Clean slate for the new year! This year I have a goal to read the books I own and at least one non-fiction book per month. I also got a VIZ manga subscription since I got sucked in by a lot of the manga volumes that passed my desk. I'm open to any manga recommendations, especially completed series.
ETA: except One Piece lol. No infinite manga, pls.
