To Zimmer's credit, Williams borrows some of his best stuff from Prokofiev and Dvorak, etc., though I do love him (and some like ET were more original than Star Wars and Jaws). It's really hard to rank them though. I also really love Joe Hisashi and Danny Elfman, and Alan Menken. They all have such moving scores.

Since they made the LotR and Amelié scores respectiviely and those two are probably my all time favourite scores: Howard Shore and Yann Tiersen

hans zimmer has done great work but as cliche as it is i'd still john williams beats him out. howard shore for lotr and james horner's work for titanic also come to mind.
