Uh, it doesn't really fulfill the prompt exactly, so sorry about that. I kinda adored this prompt, so I hope someone else answers it with more rebuilding!Dean. I just couldn't get that part to work for me. This is what came out instead. :)

Sam read a scientific study once, about how the act of smiling could elevate your mood, even if you had no reason to be happy. So Dean says, "C'mon, bitch," and Sam smiles, hoping that if he does, he'll feel the old warmth the term of endearment used to bring. And when Dean jokes, "That's my brother, he's a little slow," to their witness, Sam smiles, even though all he can think about is the truth behind the joke. He was slow enough to let himself be tricked into letting the devil loose.

And when Dean says, "Can it wait, Sam? I gotta call Lisa back. Can you believe Ben just got himself booted from the new team?" Sam smiles, though it's hard as can be to make it look real, when all he feels is guilt that he has Dean here with him, and misery, that he can't bring himself to let Dean go

Sam must not really believe that though, because on the next hunt, he finds himself falling from a second story balcony, and he's praying as he goes that when he hits the ground, it shatters his skull

Awwwwwww, I love this! It's really well done. Great job. And though it's not the most moving line, I'm really impressed by your description here: "Yep," Dean says. The 'p' really pops.

Thank you for filling my prompt so beautifully. Single-handed rebuilding!Dean would have his appeal, but there is also something about the idea of the boys getting help, whether it's the backup family of Lisa and Ben or actual professional help, that's very moving. Maybe it's because Dean is so transformed by the realization that they have choices and possibilities and support, and that he can give that to Sam.

Aw, I'm so happy the fill worked for you. Thank you for that prompt. Dean may not admit to wanting normal the way Sam did, but I think he's always yearned for a home and a family, just as much as Sam. Just, I think Dean's aware that he could never truly be happy without Sam in his life as part of that family. If he saw a chance for both, I think Dean would be all over it in a heartbeat.

Oh, man. I love your crazy Sam. I love the way he knows the difference between hallucination and reality, at least some of the time, it just makes it all the more intense.

And he so, SO deserves the chance for peace.
