Meh. It's just hair. It grows back, and it's easier to take care of when it isn't too long. On the other hand, you shouldn't feel compelled to cut your hair just to be in line with society's weakening normative views on hair length.

I don't think long hair on men with premature balding is a statement of denial at all. I know a number of men with premature balding and long hair; to be honest, I feel like it's a statement of defiance more than anything. I know a few men with premature balding who have short hair, and to be honest, I find it less attractive. Certainly avoid a combover, please. But still - it feels less impressive.

Socially - it depends what you want to do, but I can't see you in a field that's going to automatically reject you based on your hair. Even if you're not in academia, I seriously doubt they will mind. The major objection I see to men with long hair is cleanliness, and that's not a problem in your case. And time is no excuse either - I've had long hair since it started growing :^)

*shrug* I'm biased, since I like long hair in everyone, but I think you should keep it.

Well, I guess I just disagree. Every time I see a balding guy with long hair, I think "ew", so I feel like it would be hypocritical to get that way myself. Of course, you're probably more qualified to judge attractiveness in men than me, so I probably have no idea what I'm talking about.

I don't think I buy the defiance argument, but I'm not sure I can explain why. I think it's because when you're being defiant, it's because someone else can understand it. When you're unjustly captured, you defy those holding you as much as you can, because you want them to understand that they can never really break you, even if they hold you physically. But there's no reason to be defiant against balding. It's just balding, it's a natural process, it has no mind. It's like being defiant against gravity. Seems kinda pointless.

I vote keep it, but I'm another person who likes long hair on men. Arthur had a pony tail until his elbow surgery. He realized that he couldn't pull back the pony tail and put in the hair thing with one hand, so he cut it off for convenience at that time and has never grown it back. I suspect you're right that if you make it shorter, you will stick with the new length, but maybe not.
It's my impression (based on what's considered proper business grooming by hospitals, which admittedly is not your area) that long hair pulled back from the face is fine, and that the big taboo is face piercings.

my boyfriend went to the museum of science to get his hair standing up straight at the van der graaf generator before he chopped it off for a wedding. I took a crappy picture or two, and some video. So if you do it, I vote you give your hair a dramatic goodbye ;9

I know this is going to be unpopular, but, much as I think you pull off the long hair very well, I think short is the way to go for a professional look.
