A couple of weeks ago, a neighbour of ours, a 17 year old girl, hammered on our door in a distressed state saying that a man had tried to pull her into his car as she was walking home from college (this was 4.30 pm, by the way, not late evening or anything ( Read more... )

Good job Mark!
Glad your neighbor was unharmed.

Yes - it could have been a lot worse, but she's a strong, athletic young woman who put up a brave fight.

And you know what I think Ange!!! I think he and Eddie are both absolutely marvelous .... they deserve the commendation and thank goodness they had the guts to do what they did, and the girl concerned had the wits about her to recognise the bloke, even in her distressed state. If they'd sat back and done nothing, goodness only know what the bloke might have gone on to do .... It doesn't bear thinking about.

Well done Mark - I'm proud of you too.

Carol. xx

Wow, that's incredible - well done to Mark and the other neighbour!

That poor girl, I hope she gets the therapy and support to get over such an orderal, especially as the objects in the car could have led to something unthinkable.

Funnily enough, she seems to have got over it relatively easily - she's only 17, and you're invincible at that age, aren't you?

It hit her parents harder - her father especially. On the night, he was shaking with anger and saying that he couldn't have trusted himself not to attack the other man if he'd got to him first. And her Mum collected her from college the next day so that she wouldn't have to walk from the bus-stop. However, here we are a few weeks later and things seem to be back to normal - the girl is walking past our house again and smiling.

I think the police are taking the view that 'the public' don't get involved these days because of the risks. Only a few months ago, a father of four living in the next town was kicked to death by a group of teenage boys whom he tried to stop vandalising his car, so it's understandable if you don't dive straight in. However, I think it helped that Mark and Eddie, our neighbour, had each other for support in this situation - safety in numbers!

Wow, brilliant for being brave and helping out. That's the only sane compassionate thing to do and seems like it should be everyone's reaction but there seem to be so many apathetic selfish people who would just tell her to calm down and go home since she wasn't hurt.

Good on him! Yeah for goodwill.

We live in a good neighbourhood, in that we all look out for each other's families. It's just a shock, therefore, that this sort of thing could happen where we live.
