Thank You

Thanks so much for the kind words about my last post, everyone! You guys are really sweet to share my joy in this. I'm way excited, and looking forward to the work ahead.

I've gotten so horrible about keeping up this supposed journal, but I really needed to get something up so it's not looking all "Yay, me" forever...

So: "Yay, Sarah!"

I love the bag Sarah made. What a lovely gift. You must attract creative people to you--I don't know how you do it.

I have this issue all the time. Like can I still enjoy watching Robin Hood when I know Errol Flynn was a Nazi? Yes, but I do hiss "Nazi creep" as I do so.
I'd probably lose my taste for reading an author if I actually met them and found them unpleasant. I don't think you need to have a moral absolute rule as much as an instinctual feel.
I find this a lot in the people I've written about. Three men who were big sports heroes turned out to be some of the worst fathers you can imagine. People idolized them. Would they have felt differently if they knew them personally? I think it's a good thing to keep in mind, in general, as we make people into heroes. Once you know both the good and the bad about someone, then you've got something to think about.

I do my best to learn as little as possible about the writers I like, because if I find out they're full of suck, I just can't read their stuff anymore. I'm the same way about actors, though I've found that if musicians are full of suck, I can keep on listening. I have no idea what the difference is, but there it is. :)

I know exactly what you mean. I think if I hadn't already loved EMILY OF NEW MOON and ANNE OF GREEN GABLES, I might not be such a big L.M. Montgomery fan because of a negative pattern I found in some of her earlier works that problem reflects something about her person that I wouldn't have liked.

I think if I find the art and fall in love with it, I can continue to love the art...but I might hate the artist. Which means, in turn, that if I find out something truly negative about the artist before I see the art, I may be difficult to win over as a fan. It wouldn't be impossible, just unlikely, I think.

*off to jam to a Britney Spears tune* ;)

Interesting question! I can't think of any writers I've met that I didn't like--I don't know all that many though. I did meet an actor once who I decided was a jerk & now I can't stand to watch his movies. He's in EVERYTHING too, so it's really annoying. If I see a preview, I'm all like, what a punk!
