I'm the same and I've thought about this.. I think it's something like, when you've slept for fewer hours you are in a less deep state of sleep, so it isn't so hard to pull yourself out of it. But add more hours and you're sleeping deeper so it's a bit more of a pain to wake from.
In my experience, the worst amount of sleep to get is between 4 and 6 hours. Under 4 allows you to at least make it through the morning, though you'll drop like a rock in the early afternoon. Over 6 hours should be good enough to get you through the day.
Between 4 and 6, though, and you'll be nodding off all day unless your classroom is really cold.
