Thy Mother's Sword

If your mother bestowed a sword upon you, what would it be?

I'm thinking mine would give me a mechanical pencil with a sturdy eraser, she's an accountant.

actually mine would give me a mechanical pencil as well, 9mm graphite, brown and mustard yellow from the 80s...or a laptop battery...

And old-school russian syringe, glass, with little gradations. She was a nurse in russia, and, actually, is a nurse now.

(I'd fit right in among the Bioshock little girl crowd)

A sword constructed entirely of elaborately folded and treated paper cut from books of all stripes -- history books (but not textbooks), cookbooks, classic children's fantasy and historical fiction, the Bible, Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, broadside ballads, folktales and mythology from hundreds of cultures, everything. My father would probably tie some ribbons of celluloid to the hilt, and there'd probably be charms shaped like records and forks and cake pans.

My mother has homeschooled me all my life -- yes, even now that I've graduated! -- and knowledge and a fierce love for world culture, good food, and storytelling of every kind were the weapons my parents bestowed upon me.

It would be a quill pen with a clicky top to retract the main blade, and the quills themselves would be shuriken-like (and would grow back if some needed to be used)

Probably the Apple computer knockoff (Franklin) that she built from parts in 1980.

It wasn't good for much other than word-processing and playing Snakebite, but it was cool.
