Not only is it the first Monday of the month, it's the first Monday of the new year! How awesome is that?

The rules haven't changed:

1. Leave an anonymous secret.
2. Interact with other people leaving anonymous secrets.
3. Don't be a douchebag.

Happy New Year!

I really need to stop crushing on people who live many states away, especially as I have no travel budget whatsoever. Damned internets.

That's often the safest kind of crush. Speaking at least for myself, I know that distance also lends an extra coat of "the grass is greener over there". So I know that I always need to be careful about that.

I got something I've really wanted for a long time over the holidays. I'm not sure I know what to do with it now, though.

I'm letting a friend's daughter stay with me right now so long as she pays rent and electric (she's 18, works full-time, and is not going to school.) Well, I just found out that all of her friends at work are under 18 and they've been gathering at my place during the day rather than going to school. I'm so angry right now because the last thing I've wanted is for my home to become a hiding place for delinquent minors.

I want a long term relationship. Like a forever one. Heck, I want a kid. But there are so many barriers between me and that. I'm picky. I'm afraid of rejection. It's harder to find available people as I get older. The things I tend to be attracted to aren't good for me. I think I'm hot, but realistically I'm not conventionally attractive. The neighborhood I live in isn't child friendly. I want my child to have outdoor space, at least a yard, but I also love living in the city. Some of these are small things and some big, but I'm starting to think that maybe it isn't going to happen for me, and that scares me a lot.

Your potential child could still have yard space in the city. My old 2-flat had a yard. Or you could move to somewhere across the street from a park.

Many people are picky, afraid of rejection and not conventionally pretty and still have kids. I do. Don't give up!

I have much sympathy for "The things I tend to be attracted to aren't good for me", though. Me too.
