The Little Things in Life: Babies [1/2]
#34 Hankyung/Kibum (Acceptance)
35/100
To Hankyung there is nothing like a hot shower, freshly laundered sheets, and a nice cup of tea to relax with after a long day of work. Today had been a particularly grueling one with lots of yelling from customers' and shouting by his boss.
Hankyung opened the door to his apartment wearily, and flung his work shoes to the side. He set his backpack down on side table and stumbled to the small kitchen to turn the light on. He was just preparing to pour himself a cup of tea to take to his room when suddenly his roommate called out to him.
"Hankyung hyung? Is that you?" Ryeowook was several years younger and worked at a bookstore just up the street. He shuffled out of their shared bedroom, yawning and pulling at his bathrobe.
"Oh, hello Ryeowook ah," Hankyung rubbed his eyes and looked up at the clock on the wall. "Isn't it kind of late for you to be up?"
"Kind of, but I couldn't really sleep well," Immediately he went into what their friends called his 'umma mode'. "Did you want some food? I think there might be some leftover noodles in the fridge. I can heat it up for you!" He made his way to the kitchen and began pulling the noodles out of the fridge.
"Mmm. Noodles sound really good right now. Thank you." Hankyung yawned quietly as he sat down in one of the chairs. He tugged the newspaper towards him and was just getting into the business section when Ryeowook said,
"I almost forgot hyung! Someone called for you earlier. Someone named Kim Kibum?" While stirring the noodles over the stove, he pointed with his left hand towards the telephone sitting atop the living area coffee table.
The newspaper crinkled as Hankyung put it aside and stood up.
"Ah, but the noodles are done already hyung. Eat first then call him back. I don't want you to get sick just when you got better!" Ryeowook set down a piping hot bowl of noodles down on the table along with a cup of barley tea.
"What would I ever do without you?" Hankyung smiled and rubbed Ryeowook's shoulder.
"Hyung!" Kibum exclaimed uncharacteristically into the phone when Hankyung returned his call.
"Kibum ah!" Hankyung chuckled at his best friend's voice. "What's up?"
"Miyoung is pregnant! We just found out today!"
"Wow! Congratulations!"
"Tha-" At this point Hankyung could hear a muffled voice in the background. He heard Kibum whisper something back before returning to the phone.
"Sorry, that was Miyoung. She just wanted to say hi."
"Tell her I said hi back."
"Of course. Anyways, I'm sorry for calling so late." Kibum's voice went back to being his normal serious one. "I just wanted to ask you something."
"Sure. What is it?" Hankyung took a sip from his third cup of tea.
"Miyoung and I want you to be our child's godfather. We would be honored if you accept."
Hankyung's eyes went wide. "M-me? Be the godfather?"
"Yes, hyung."
"But but..."
"Unless you don't want to," Kibum teased.
"N-no! Of course I accept! I am touched that you want me to be the godfather!"
"I knew you would say yes." Hankyung could practically picture Kibum's grin.
"So," Hankyung asked excitedly, forgetting all about being tired. "When is she due?"
"October."
"October huh? I can't wait!"
