i would be interested to hear everyone's thoughts:

James Joyce wrote in Dubliners (via Mr. Duffy's character in "A Painful Case"): "Love between man and woman is impossible because there must not be sexual intercourse and friendship between man and woman is impossible because there must be sexual intercourse."

What do you think?

i think you should listen to mr. joyce's fucked up ramblings and endorse love between a woman and a woman. ;o)

oh darling, but i do, believe me. it's just never worked out for me yet. lots of naive little unrequited nonsense because i lack the balls to make a move and risk the *gasp* rejection. i slack off toward 'saving the friendship' instead of laying one on her.

lame i know.

I'll see your Joyce and raise you some Nietzsche: "A woman may very well form a friendship with a man, but for this to endure, it must be assisted by a little physical antipathy."

In any case, Joyce is right. How any of us manage to have stable relationships--with friends, lovers or whatever in between--is continually amazing to me.
