If you were to recommend a book to me, what book would it be and why?

The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov, because it's the best novel I've ever read, and it amazes me every time I read it.

What an interesting title. Is it an older novel?

It's from the 1930's (though it was censored by the USSR until the 60's). The main plot involves Satan showing up in Moscow and causing chaos. It also involves Pontius Pilate, mental hospitals, a huge talking cat, the problems of Soviet writers, and a witch.

Say Goodnight, Gracie by Julie Reece Deaver. It's one of my all-time favorites and no one has read it!

Is it about Gracie?

Geek Love, by Katherine Dunn. It is not the best book ever - parts of it drag horribly - but the good bits are really, really good. It's about a carnival family; the kids are all sideshow freaks. It's about love and humanity, and it's funny in a very dark and nasty way.

Another one you might like is Tideland, by Mitch Cullin. It is a disturbing yet beautifully dreamlike story about a little girl and the world she creates for herself after her junkie father moves them to a farmhouse in the middle of nowhere, then dies.

PS White Teeth! White Teeth! White Teeth!

PPS No seriously.

Ooo I really want to pick up that second one.

For some reason I won't read that book. I forgot why though.

Oh, really? I'll shut up about it then.

P.S. Perhaps you know, there's a new collection of Neil Gaiman short stories called Fragile Things coming out soonish.

Blood and Guts in High School by Kathy Acker. It's extreamly vulgar, and on it's down side the vulgarity seems to be just for shock-value. But, there is so much philosophical wisdom in that book as well. No other books has changed my life, and my views so much. Might be hard to find, try the internet.

You liked the Wheel of Time, so if you haven't gotten to it yet I highly recommend the Belgariad series by David Eddings (and the Mallarian series, Belgarath the Sorcerer, and Polgara the Sorceress).
