Tznius Round Up

Many websites have tznius-related posts this week. I'll sum them up for you and then ask my Rosh Hashanah question.

Matzav Tznius Article Here.  Summary: Having women join hatzalah for ob-gyn emergencies would be immodest. It is a breach of tznius standards.  Better let the men deliver babies.

Collive Tznius Article Here: Summary : I was harassed ( Read more... )

I know some of you find tefillah to be inspiring during these days, but why? How?

I don't find rosh hashono/yom kippur tefillah even slightly inspiring. This endless davening when lasts for seven hours with endless repetitions all over again, and makes no difference whatsoever.

Regarding tznius: let's admit, muslim ladies are quite superior. I suggest frum shtetlach should look like Saudi Arabia where women are not allowed to drive, go out without a male companion, wear burkas and so on. Surely Hashem will be very happy about all this :)

Well, even when I was observant, I didn't like all these long prayers. But I believed this is what god wants and if we do it we will have a good year etc. So I just hanged on until the end.

> As you spend hours and hours praising Him for creating the world and glorifying Him and crowning Him and reciting pesukim about his splendor and majesty, does it all strike you as modest and humble?

Modest and humble?! He’s a megalomaniacal tyrant who’s prone to throwing violent tantrums when He doesn’t get proper recognition.

> God you are the greatest and the best totally, totally for sure. Btw, can you please not kill me this year.

Can you please not kill me this year… so that I can continue to serve You, insignificant, unworthy, vile and wretched being that I am. Al chet, al chet, al chet.

By the way, I foolishly followed the link to the Matzav article. “Sick to my stomach” is a cliché, but the italicized introduction made me experience a moment of nausea. Particularly the last sentence. Some warning next time, please.

ROFL!! Love this post.

I don't go to shul anymore and now that I have small children, I can get away with it. Yay! Long ago I decided that davening from the siddur was totally the antithesis of inspirational. I feel more tingles from singing zemirot with a bunch of nice people around a shabbos table.

The only davening related quote that ever meant anything to me was something that went like this: It is assur to daven from a siddur. A person can only daven from his heart. If he needs a siddur to help him, he can use it, but you can only daven from your heart, not from a siddur.

Article 1: Since I'm reading it late at night, my head just hurt and all I could think was "WTF?" and "are these guys freaks?" Then again, I'm an evil feminist lawyer who once learned emergency first aid and CPR as a lifeguard...

Article 2: Comment #128 was clearly a joke - was it from you?

Can we get the author of "Inside Out" to tell us all about how women serving as emergency responders is SO immodest?

Even the people who did not read the matzav article late at night had the same reaction you did :)

Well, except for JP. He's off thinking about those alluring female EMTs.

I think that a woman exposing her body is uviversally considered to be a sign sexual availability. Just saying.

This is a) not true and b) irrelevant.

None of the articles I posted describe women exposing their bodies.
