I'm Getting Done

Nov 05, 2011 23:33

I've been blogging here for a long time, as blogs go, about six years.

It's been a very useful, helpful outlet, but all good things must come to an end and I'm starting to think about finishing up.

First, the nature of my questions are changing. I am spending more time discussing local social issues and less time on  larger intellectual or halachic ( Read more... )

> there are many idiots in the world, why focus only on the Orthodox ones?

Because you live in an Orthodox community and your kids attend Orthodox schools?

Yeah, but that reason is getting weaker, I think.
Maybe I can just dismiss them more and worry about them less. Maybe not. Let's see what happens.

Dear OSM: Your honesty in addressing infuriating and often outrageous issues in the religious world, and your genuine expressions of frustration with the beliefs and practices that often conflict with compassionate values have resonated deeply with me throughout the years. Please know that while I understand and support your need to "take a break," I know I am not alone in saying, "I will miss you. I love reading your posts. You are truly an original. You have helped me a lot." And always remember, OSM, that you are not alone. As you continue to search for a way to live your life that is consistent with your integrity, please be aware that others, like myself, are engaged in the very same struggle. And we're proud of it. Really. Good luck, OSM, and as Burt said to Mary Poppins, "Don't stay away too long."

Ditto on the above writers' sentiments. Thank you for giving a voice to many of my own struggles that I have shared with you. I too feel alot like you in the sense that the further I distance myself from Orthodox life, the less what happens there matters.

I think the government does have to step in and set guidelines. 4 to 1 is reasonable and too much if there are non-walking infants. The way it was explained to me, was in case of a fire, you need to get them all out in one shot. With infants, we had to have 2 to 1 ratio b/c you can only carry 2, one in each arm.

But I think I fundamentally disagree with you on the "I think I should be entitled to do that" part. Just because a parent thinks something is acceptable for her child doesn't mean she should have the legal/ moral right to do that. This applies to so many things: from public school curriculum standards to abusive forms of discipline.

I am *really* sorry to see this post because I just found this blog a few days ago. I hope you will reconsider (or switch to a different blogging site, or to microblogging, or a protected account, or something). I understand the need to ignore wackos out there, but please consider that if you walk away and stop writing there will be one less sane voice!

now you understand why I got divorced from my first husband.

I encourage you to step away from the lubavitch cray cray but obviously it is not completely possible since you are married to a lubavitcher. just try to steer your daughters away from marrying one.
