Random Nerdy Biological Question

Jan 19, 2009 23:32

So I was really bored today.  And I'm a total nerd.  And combining those things creates some interesting circumstances.  Today, I started analyzing something and it still confuses me.

Is Jesus diploid or haploid?  Does he have one set of chromosomes, or two sets like a normal person?

Any ideas?

C. None of the above. (Literally)

Actually, I would assume that according to those who believe he is divine, he wouldn't have any. God wouldn't have chromosomes, so neither did Christ. He just... was. Mary was a vessel for a divine being, not a biological mother. So he wouldn't really have any of hers. As stated, God wouldn't have any at all, so Jesus is just without. Kinda like Adam and Eve had no belly buttons... he's just a weirdo that way. ;)

For clarification: this is not my personal opinion on this issue.

Historically, the general Christian consensus is that Jesus is simultaneously fully God and fully human. Do not ask how this is possible. I'm not even sure myself. But that's the common belief.

To be fully human, you would need to be diploid. But he technically had a father with no DNA, so he would be haploid. I really don't care either way. It's just one of my weird thoughts. One of my profs, Liz, and I were discussing it.
