Lots o good thinky thoughts there. Completely agree that Zachariah just does not understand Dean at *all*.
Hmm... I just realized something from what you mentioned. That Castiel does have Lucifer's Sword, the angel killing weapon. Which was last in *Anna's* possession. So she's possibly still in the game, maybe running interference for Cas...
Yeah. Zachariah... is great villain, fun to hate. But he doesn't strike me as the brightest angel in the garrison, yanno? At least, not when it comes to Dean.
Actually... Now that you mention it, didn't Castiel have Lucifer's Sword in the season opener? ...Yes, the SPN wiki confirms it. So if Castiel has this weapon, can't he use it to kill Lucifer? OTOH, as Fireez said below, Lucifer's gone far beyond being a simple fallen angel. And after all, it is Lucifer's sword. Perhaps he's the only angel it can't kill. Or perhaps it can't kill fallen angels.
I do agree with you though: I want to see where Anna is now! What's she doing? Is she still with the angels, or has she gone rogue now too? It'd be way cool if she was secretly working with Cas.
Time travel gives me a headache. Clearly in the Supernatural 'verse Dean meeting 'himself' is not the universe ending paradox that it seems to be in most stories. But it does beg the question, why doesn't Future!Dean remember meeting himself when he was 2009!Dean?
Answer - he was only the Future!Dean that was projected out from 2009 Dean, as a result of the decision that he and Sam should stay apart. At the point Zach threw him ahead 5 years, that was the scenario. Dean's future trip took little or no 'real time' and created a future time loop based on that choice which, in effect, ended with Future!Dean's death. When 2009 Dean returned, he didn't say 'yes' to Michael (which was as Future!Dean knew)and then Dean chose to reunite with Sam. (which never happened in Future!Dean's memory) Loop closed. New future based on Dean's decision to be with Sam opens up.
Free will. Baby!! And BTW? Yes Sam, you do have a choice. JUST SAY 'NO!' TO BEING AN ANGEL CONDOM!! ;)
I know, time travel is the stuff headaches are made out of. Especially since every story does it differently.
You pose a good question. Why doesn't Future!Dean remember the time travel? You give a good answer, but look, I can make it even more complicated for you! At the point where Zach threw Dean ahead five years, the scenario included not only Dean's decisions to part from Sam and not say yes to Michael, but also Zach's decision to throw him into the future. So the natural flow of events from that point on would include Dean's time traveling. In which case it doesn't make sense that Dean didn't remember meeting himself. Of course, all this depends on what representation of time travel you're using. Your explanation--which is completely valid--seems to visualize time as a stream of events, one continuous line like those time-lines they make you make in school, or the number lines you draw in math. When a person time-travels, they pull out of that stream of events and plop in somewhere else, and the effects don't become obvious

In Supernatural the demons and angels have spent a lot of time telling Dean and Sam that their destinies are inevitable. Lucifer does that - he makes conjecture into declarative sentences. States possibilities as certainties. He may even believe it - which makes it all the more compelling. But saying doesn't make it so

Re: Lucifer - Yeah... Obviously he's a heck of a lot more than a fallen angel. He was that at one point, but he's gone way beyond that by now. And sure, they say that the Colt can kill anything, but that's only if the bullet hits right. And this is Satan himself. If he can't stop the bullet midair, then he ain't living up to his name. And that's assuming that the Colt really can kill absolutely anything.
Hey, if you really think this through, you'll see that the past isn't all that fixed, either. WORD. I've always thought that if the future can be represented as a fractal tree, continually and wildly branching off the further you get from the present, then the past would be the same just in the other direction. Of course, that's a different representation of time than the chaos theory one, or the very fixed one that the show seems to go by.
My guess is they're going the usual time travel in fiction route, which is "the future is kind of fixed, and you'll have to do something totally unexpected to change it

That was top 3 best moments of the episode! It was full force back-up to everyone that thought Dean was faking this entire stiff lip crap.
'Kay, I have three (short) subjects: The Colt, angels, and Sam&Dean's reunion.
I am so excited for the colt! I knew these boys were going to need it once 5.01 started!

Cas was all full of win in this episode. Zachariah for the lose.
DEAN AND SAM REUNION JUST MAKES THIS EPISODE EVEN BETTER THAN IT ALREADY IS. <3
