This may be a tall order, but how about a (respectful) anti-pairing fic? That is to say, pick a pairing of your choice and make a fictional case against it. No points for character-bashing and OOC-ness, obviously. You wouldn't have to dislike the pairing for real, though it's fine if you do, too.

Eh, I dunno if anyone else would like to see something like this, just throwing it out there...

You mean write about why a certain pairing is illogical (even if it's not)? I would love to do this with Sanji/Nami (though ironically, I wrote a couple Sanji/Nami responses to this meme). Mostly because I feel that their dynamic makes some interesting points about gender. Hopefully, I won't offend any shippers if I try this. It'll be mostly introspection.

That sounds pretty cool, and yeah, something like that is what I'd been thinking of. Though it doesn't have to be illogical as such, although that works. Just basically if you can get some possible interesting views of the characters and their dynamic from a "maybe this won't work"-scenario. In a respectful way, I hope. (I've seen this done for Sanji and Zoro once.) Of course I'm entirely prepared to have some of my own favourite pairings dismantled, too. (Getting more than one reply would be pretty great.)

I've been scrambling around trying to find the fic but alas without success. It doesn't seem to have been written by the one I thought it might be, and a few other possible names have yielded no results either. Sorry!

It was based on the premise that Sanji's and Zoro's relationship start truning worse once they start to have sex; this messes with their stronger bonds as friends and comrades, rahter than lovers. If I recall the gist of it correctly. In any case, I thought it quite original and refreshing. The author apologised a bit for posting it but it got lots of positive feedback, I seem to recall. I'll try hunting for it a little more...

Aah. Okay, now I get your jist. You're kinda looking for a relationship-gone-wrong fic minus the over the top drama. Hmmm... okay, I think I can wrangle that.

Yeah, something like that could work. But it could also be some scene explaining why a relationship never starts in the first place. (Since you mentioned Sanji/Nami, that could entail peeking into Nami's brain, for instance. Or even Sanji's - he _thinks_ he wants it, but does he really, deep down. Etc.)

I was basically thinking this could make writers indulge themselves in some anti-pairing reasons they usually wouldn't post in fics, but hopefully while still sounding thoughtful and non-rantish. But like I said, that might be a tall order to get a decent fic from. Anyway, looking forward to seeing what might develop!! ^_^

Nami can feel the silence become oppressive, suffocating. She sighs again, with more discontent. “Don’t worry about me, Sanji,” she says. “Go to bed.”

“Nami-san,” he says and something in his voice makes her turn to look against her better judgement. There’s a determined glint in Sanji’s visible eye and suddenly the words are more overwhelming than the silence and she feels like she’s drowning in them.

“Sanji-kun.” The three syllables carry all the things Nami can’t yet verbalise and Sanji swallows and they both just stand there, silence returning. Its weight pushes down on them, curving their backs and bowing their heads, setting flame upon their cheeks, and Nami know-knows-she needs to explain all the same.

“I-” She stops, gathers her thoughts. “You’re…. All four of you; you’re like family. And Sanji, you’re-you’re lovely and you deserve the best of the world and one day you’ll make someone so happy and they’ll make you just as happy, but it’s not me. You’re like a brother to me and I just-can’t feel any differently

This was really good and I'm someone who like Nami and Sanji together sometimes... I just like their relationship better like you wrote it here~ Nami just can't choose only one of her nakamas.

Oh and you win so very much for having Nami calling the boys her boys, that gets me everytimes ♥

I've never really been much of a Sanji/Nami shipper because of this reason. This is kind of how I see it--so I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks of it like this!

I'm generally pretty unreliable about stuff like that so, not promises, but I do love the idea of giving a Sanji POV a shot. I'LL TRY. :P

(I very much love Nami calling them her boys too. I think she does it frequently in her head.)

This is awesome! So emotional and evocative, and it feels very right to me in terms of the characters (not that Sanji/Nami can't feel right too, in a different story). I feel honoured, Anon.
I second that it would be great to see this from Sanji's POV, but only if you feel like it of course.

I will probably come across as a totally greedy bastard if I say I'd still be interested in seeing more great anti-pairing fics, like this one. ^_^ But when I thought of this request/prompt it just felt like something that could be fine for more than one reply, assuming anyone felt like writing it.

But in any case, this feels really satisfying to read! Thank you!

I feel honoured that you liked it so much!!! I was a bit wary about bits and pieces of it, but I think I can pretty safely say that this request produced one of the best fics I've written--so thank YOU for coming up with it!! ^-^
