I have definitely had the have-someone-follow-your-group-about thing happen after SF events.

Also I constantly feel like a loser so... at least you're not alone in that? :-P Yeah, I know, not very helpful.

Making/keeping friends can be tough. Have you ever tried using something like Meetup.com to maybe meet people who have more similar interests to you? I've had pretty good luck with that in the past---and it's nice because a lot of them are organized around some sort of activity so you don't have to just sit there awkwardly trying to come up with something to say. :-P

Actually, come to think of it, one of my female friends in Berkeley is into rock-climbing and comics and is a vegan---if you want I could introduce you two via email. I realize Berkeley is not *super* convenient to you, but at least it would give you someone else who is into rock-climbing and who is in the general area, and it would be way easier to agree on restaurants! I promise to do any introductions in a totally non-mortifying way. :-)

I think part of the problem is that I just don't have the energy to make new friends right now. (And yeah, Berkeley is kind of a long drive away...) I do appreciate the thought, though :) Thanks!

Ehhhhn. Spares are just not exciting :(

I've had folks suggest using Meetups before, but I just can't see myself mustering the time or the energy to deal with a whole group of new people. That's the kind of thing I find very overwhelming :( I'm honestly such an RPG n00b and a boardgame pleb that I don't know that I'd fit in very well with those types of groups, either.

I barely have the time to accomplish any knitting on my own, so no. It's hard to imagine how I'd work out meeting up with people for a knitting circle.

I know an avid knitter and a crocheter, and I've taught Kerry to knit (she is still working on the scarf from years ago before her son was born) and she's picked up crochet recently (and is attempting to crochet a baby blanket for the new wee bairn on the way). The knitter lives halfway to SF from me (which is a bit of a long way away), and the crocheter lives in LA (which is a hell of a long way away). Not really seeing an easy way to pull together a Stitch n' Bitch session.
