I bet that hurt Spike... doing something nice for Riley. However, as much as I really do like Riley, THIS Riley is driving me up a wall. As Spike would say, Wanker!
You'd never know from this story that I really like Riley. I was totally won over when he went to that party hoping to pick up Buffy and offered to stay and sit with depressed Willow instead. Such a nice guy. But he really did have problems adjusting after the Initiative.
I'm getting this scary twisting feeling in my stomach when I think about this version of Joyce possiblly dying. Spike will not handle it well, it won't be pretty...unless you find some way to change it. Find some way to make the underlying cause different...
I can't really say much about Riley, as, again, season 5-less here...
The funny thing is, in book 2 Spike filled the hole left by Faith never being called. In book 3 and now a little in book 4, Spike seems to more be filing Anya's canon shoes. Or do I just think I see that because I'm tired?
I was torn about Riley. when he was first introduced, I really liked him. Season 5, he got more and more annoying. He really seemed completely unable to accept that he wasn't the center of Buffy's world, which was unbelievably selfish when Buffy was struggling with a seriously ill mother and having to take care of Dawn while her mom was in and out of the hospital.
