Oh yes! Joyce's brain tumor was a great deal of drama for everyone not just Buffy & Dawn.

Xander is just so incredibly mature in this story. Being the rock that everyone can lean on and falling apart in private.

And then there is still the decision about what he's going to say about Dawn.

Joyce became far more than just Buffy's mother to everyone, but Xander does realize that Buffy and Dawn are hurting the most. Him asking is what allows Buffy to admit she could really use the presence of her surrogate father.

Joyce's illness side-tracked him temporarily, but Xander hasn't forgotten there's still a big ole Dawn issue to be dealt with.

It's a tough situation for everyone. And maybe more so for people who are so used to facing things they can fight.

You're right, Buffy and Spike are feeling particularly helpless right now. I think it's why, in canon, Buffy kept insisting on patrolling and fighting right through everything.

Great. I'm glad Wesley got Joyce in the hospital. Xander and Tara can hold down the fort at the Magic Box so Giles can go to them. Wonderful chapter with all the Scoobies pulling together.

I thought Giles was really under-utilized in the comfort Buffy area in canon. The man's practically her father, if she was going to let herself lean on anyone, it would be him.

Yeah, Giles was really the father figure for the whole group and never seemed to understand that. How very much power he had over all of them, and how badly he could (and sometimes did) hurt them with neglect or coldness.

Lovely chapter, too short though *pouts*

Thank you for writing

So true. There are times when I just want to slap canon-Giles. Mostly I love him but sometimes...

That one was a bit shorter than usual, but it seemed like a natural break spot. Sorry about that. *g*
