I woke up this morning prepared to ignore any and all references to Valentine's Day and was soon put to the test by an owl arriving with three dozen red roses during breakfast. There was no parchment or note of any kind; just the blooms and their fragrance. Of course I've no idea who could've sent something so lovely to brighten up an otherwise ( Read more... )

No, that was me being dry. I'd be very surprised if it turned out to be someone else.

And you thought they were lovely?

Well, they are. They're those pretty old roses, a bit overwhelming en masse but I've arranged them in smaller bunches and it's very nice seeing them in every room. The flat smells delicious as well.

After tomorrow should be fine, cherie. Where in France shall you be?

Between Lyons and Perpignan; no fixed itinerary yet.

And I was thinking next Tuesday or Wednesday for dinner. I'll know a bit more by then.

Do be sure to visit the Opera in Lyon if you get the chance; their company is quite magnificent.

Tuesday will probably be a bit better than Wednesday, but either day shall do, I think.

I can hardly wait to see you Hermione! It has been too long.

I definitely will then. I love opera and I haven't been to one in an age.

And it really has been too long. You know how it is, though - lives get so busy and you end up seeing several people at once just so you can see them at all.

The flowers make me happy, but it's a transitory pleasure. That's how it is with most things these days.

Most pleasures are always transitory right I mean if that's all I can't see much different from everyday life.

I mean more in general.

I suppose in general, things feel transitory full-stop. It's a very different feeling from what I'm used to. Not bad, necessarily, just strange.

A whole three dozen red roses! Aren't you lucky! I saw that all the flowers were very picked over when I stopped by the shop near my flat after work, but there was a slightly browned, squashed rose left and I bought it because it looked rather sad, I thought.

Ron seldom does things by halves.

I like the squashed roses that are a bit off. They're closer to what you'd find growing in a garden.
