Long commute from Oakland, but the job sounds lovely. I see you with your own bed and breakfast in 10 years. Although I will be very obnoxious here and urge you as strongly as I can not to buy property in California. I think the whole water situation -- which I don't think is going to improve -- is going to become nightmarish for small business owners that have to pay for their own water use.

Yeah, too bad there aren't any B&B's in Oakland. The commute is going to get old soon, but for now it's beautiful enough to tolerate. There were some place hiring in Napa, too, and the commute is just about the same, but frankly I sort of despise Napa.

I fear you're right about California -- and it's not JUST the water that's going to be cost prohibitive. The Hudson Valley still beckons… (And then there's always my international dreams: http://www.bedandbreakfast.com/InnsForSale//bc-playas-de-rosarito-10551.html)

There is a B&B in Oakland -- or there used to be. At least, it was very close to the Berkeley/Oakland border.
