Servant!Guy + Asch Log

It was surprisingly warm weather in Daath. The mountains had held back the rains, and it was a bright, sunny day out. Regardless of the unusual heat, Asch had decided to practice. Van's plans were coming closer and closer to completion, and Asch knew that he'd need all the strength he could muster to see it through ( Read more... )

Asch had learned to enjoy the closeness between the two of them. Guy had always been his closest friend, and provided Asch with the only affection he could get after that foul replica had taken his place. Asch had been unbelievably grateful towards Guy for coming back to him.

He took a deep breath, the adrenaline rush from his training winding down. "You make the rest of my troops look like amateurs," Asch teased. "You almost weren't gone long enough to be missed. You and your speed." Undoubtedly, Guy was faster than Asch, which was a sore spot in Asch's training. Guy's fighting style allowed him to move faster, and so Asch had to favor strength over speed to keep up.

"Besides, I wouldn't call air a compelling opponent. It's more fun to have a live target."

Guy couldn't argue with that. He shifted his arms, one dropping from around Asch's body, the other moving to lope around his shoulders, standing casually beside him instead. Now that the game was done, standing that way for too long might become awkward - at least, for Asch, he assumed.

"They're not amateurs," he grinned, "They're mostly trainees. Give them a few more years and they'll give me a run for my gald. Until then, they may as well have more than just you to look up to."

That was the theory, anyway. His gaze shifted to the much-abused training dummy, chuckling under his breath. "I think you killed it, and then some. How long have you been at it?"

The suggestion to take a break was clear, though unspoken.

"Special ops should be experts," Asch replied, turning to face Guy and wiping the sweat from his brow. "Or the exceptionally talented." Guy was definitely both, in Asch's opinion, and Asch couldn't have a better second in command. "In a few years, you're still going to kick their asses."

Asch gave the training dummy a wayward glance. "Some time after dawn. Van's busy, and there's not a lot to do until he returns." His hair was dripping with sweat, and much to Asch's annoyance, rather sticky on his skin. "And you were gone, so I had nothing else to do."

"Well, they are experts," Guy shook his head, still amused. "They just don't have the experience you and I have. I think they have the talent, or Van wouldn't have assigned them to your unit. Give them some time - they'll come around."

Maybe if Van didn't keep dumping the missions on him all the time, it wouldn't be so bad. Decisions like that ought to be left in Asch's hands, as the general of the operatives. Why Van was interfering he had no idea, but he made a mental note to ask about it the next time he saw his former servant.

"I don't think he expected me to be back this soon," he muttered, brows furrowing. "I wonder what's going on. Have you heard anything? It seems like the entire militia is on edge lately."

"They're alright," Asch said with a sigh. "Only a few are up to my standards."

Asch was not entirely pleased with it. He wanted to live up to Van's standards as a leader. Anyone and everyone respected Van Grants. Asch wanted to be that kind of leader, only without the mystery and secrecy that Van had increasingly more of.

"I don't think so either," Asch replied. This was the hazy part. Van has made most of them swear to secrecy about the things that were going on, but Asch had expected Guy to know as well. Guy was the Commandant's childhood best friend. Asch knew they were still friends. What was Van hiding? "The plans that he's been working on are almost ready, but he won't really talk about what those are."

Asch looked down at the ground, frowning. "I don't like it. Something doesn't seem right to me." There was no way he would have said this to anyone else, but Guy had well earned his trust. "Something's wrong."
