Hmm, it appears Mom lost her wallet, and somebody tried to charge $600 of groceries to my credit card. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've locked down all of my stuff that Mom had in her wallet (one card and two checks), and I'm going to cancel and order a replacement for my already-attempted-fraud card. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I don't think you need to cancel things, just get new account numbers. I'm sorry that happened. =/ People are mean or desperate or something.

I'm getting a new credit card, everything else is frozen for the time being. So far we seem to be on top of it, luckily.

most banks have a fraud prevention thing and if you ask will give you 600 bucks until your fraud case is resumed. The legal responsibility does not fall onto you but onto the merchant who failed to properly check ID.

If it isn't a bank, then your credit card company DEFINITELY has a fraud prevention dpt that can give you a provisional line of credit, the provisional part depending on the outcome of the investigation.

If you haven't done it already, FOR THE LOVE OF FLUFFY BUNNY JESUS FILE A POLICE REPORT. It really won't do shit, but some programs will extend you the credit and do an investigation but because it wasn't filed they will pocket the delicious monies claiming you did not do everything on your part as a consumer/per line 10,00000000003a.b1 of the agreement you signed. Then you have a loan of $x/$600 you get to have fun paying back to the bank/cc company back for their generosity as somebody, somewhere, laughs maniacally.

As scary as I made it sound it really isn't, consider it!

The fraud prevention is what started the ball rolling, they detected something wrong with my card so I called Mom to see if she'd used it, and she found out her wallet was gone. Mom's filing a police report at this moment, actually. We each have one credit card that was "saved" so we're not totally up the creek, it'll just be somewhat strange for a couple weeks.
