As someone who likes the Beatles, I can't really agree with your conclusions, but I can't deny there's some truth to those allegations, either. Looking back, a lot of their songs ARE simplistic. But I think an equal number really pushed the envelope of creativity, especially back in the '60s. For make they really bridged the gap between rock's Buddy Holly-era of the 1950's with the psychedelic complexity that marked the late '60s and early '70s.

I'm not necessarily disputing that, but what I am saying is that Dylan's work actually did the heavy lifting, and the Beatles listened to him, tried to copy him and produced what they did, but because they were "The Beatles", everyone loved it and gave them all the credit, despite the fact that they basically offered up shoddy second-hand inspiration.

I won't dispute that Dylan has the deeper, more challenging, more complex songs. But I really feel that they're apples and oranges, even if Dylan did influence the Beatles. I think they both did heir respective things very well. Dylan comes much more from a blues background, while the Beatles were pop rock. But I feel like both were revolutionary in their own way.
