It's official, The Smashing Pumpkins are currently writing songs for their upcoming album, their first since 2000. No release date has yet been set, but the band plans to begin recording this summer.

I'm excited. Who else is excited?

I'm excited, but I'll hold really intense excitement back until I find out that 3/4 of the original lineup is there.

Yeah, don't hold your breath. The best I can hope for right now is half (Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlain).

Yeah, that seems most likely to me; James Iha and Billy Corgan don't seem to be exactly best friends. I expect I'll be disappointed anyway, because my favorite Pumpkins stuff is the oldest (Siamese Dream, in particular), but who knows? I'm glad to see Billy Corgan less pretentious.
