that majorly sucks... i know what you mean by a figment of your imagination... i saw a racoon the other day in our backyard... just wandering the pool deck... and the next night when i went to the far back of the backyard to turn off the pool heater, and it was like 1am and pitchdark... i SWORE i heard something breathing back there. I flipped the switch and literally RAN back to the house. our imagination can drive us nuts sometimes...

the funniest thing is that it was not a hallucination. I did see it. And I saw it again the next day. So our building manager offered us to bring her cat so he would spend a night with us. He did, but did not catch the bastard. Now my appartment is filled with moustraps.)
