I am often afeared that I've tiptoed into Option B from time to time, even though I should really know better because I have SEEN the evidence of both well-written slash and horribly-written het (both in fic and mainstream media), so I absolutely have no excuse. But basically, IAWTP. And we need more friendship goggles in life!
Hahahaha. Seeing this come full circle is kind of entertaining. Back in the olden days, the Het fans in SG-1 were mostly dicks to the slash fans, and then it calmed down, and now it's all happening again.
IT REALLY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOURS. Just something I thought about while reading it.
Mine is in regard to female friendships instead. It's happened in quite a few comms I've been in- Where girls can only be friends as long as there's lesbian undertones. When the character is 'straight'. Defined by both canon AND the player. It's always been something that irks me.
Mainly because I have straight female friends IRL and they do not indeed hug me for uncomfortable amounts of time and grope my arse for fun. >:| But I've seen it in games and resist the urge to say anything because there's no good way to say "THAT IS TOO GAY FOR A NORMAL STRAIGHT GIRL TAKE BACK YOUR MOUTH KISS THIS INSTANT
( ... )
I was just going to go to bed, but then I saw lienne had linked this post and reading it/its comments was a much better use of my time. :D
You've made me think of something that's pretty much the same thing except not specifically relationships, where there's this whole pervasive idea that every character is straight until proven otherwise. And from some debates with my housemates I get the impression that the proof has to come in the form of a giant flashing neon sign in every scene saying I AM GAY AS THE DAY RAINBOWS WERE BORN, YES REALLY, NO I'M NOT JUST CONFUSED AND/OR EXPERIMENTING.
Seriously, there was this episode of I think it was House, where a male patient was flirting hardcore with a male doctor to the point where the other characters were pointing it out, BUT THERE IS NO WAY THAT PATIENT WAS GAY HE WAS JUST EXPERIMENTING HE WAS REALLY STRAIGHT AS AN ARROW. The logic at work here, I don't even
( ... )
hurrrgh YES THAT TOO /clasps own head (no apologies RANTING IS ACCEPTABLE AND ENCOURAGED)
I just, yeah, I hate how the whole OH SLASH IN FANDOM IS SO PERVASIVE AND A THING THAT LADIES LIKE is now being used as an excuse to further dismiss anyone who suggests a character might be gay - they obviously only WANT to think this for their silly shallow lady reasons!
HNNNNNNNNNGH
and yes I am in favour of non-love-interest ladies IN EVERYTHING FOREVER sadly the patriarchy does not agree with me
