Okay, so you know what I don't like? I don't like when people in fandom act like ragging on slash is somehow rebellious and superior ( Read more... )

I AM GENERALLY OF THE 'I ship what I goddamn want and usually that is boyslash' school of thought which I know can be problematic but it is best for me on A WHOLE LOT OF LEVELS not least of all because enjoying my sexuality is generally an uphill battle.

I get very very annoyed with the recent oh-so-enlightened attitude that ~het~ which reinforces gender and sexuality norms is better than fetishistic treatment of gay men (which =/= all slash, anyway, god). The same way writing slash doesn't make you a gay activist, writing/reading only het doesn't make you a gay activist.

See, I have this sneaking suspicion that it is because mainstream media tends to be really really in favour of the idea that romance is the only plausible outcome of a man and a woman being friends. Or hating each other. Or putting grudgingly up with one another while on some kind of quest. Or knowing each other. This is SO UNIVERSAL that to avoid learning to expect that, at least on some level, is basically impossible.and that is something I have been trying to ( ... )

ashdg I hope that by "your slash piece" you don't mean the thing I linked
because all that is is like an 8-line C&P of an IM where I was being angry about how creepy and hideous it is when people apply seme/uke bullshit to EVERY PAIRING :'D /IS AN INTELLECTUAL

BUT YES

You never hear "BUT I JUST LIKE THEM AS FRIENDS, WHY CAN'T A MAN AND A WOMAN JUST BE FRIENDS" in response to het shippers.

idk I think you hear it SOMETIMES but it's never given as a reason why NOBODY SHOULD BE WRITING HET AT ALL AND YOU WILL NEVER READ HET AGAIN GO HOME HETSHIPPERS

lmao oh

well

i MIGHT COULD HANDLE THAT TONIGHT

since I have a giant hateon for yaoi bullshit anyway

I mean I hear it in REAL LIFE about REAL PEOPLE but I don't think I've ever heard it re: a fictional character except when I'm wailing on about Pepper.

Also forgot to mention that if I stumble out of intellectual exploration of the repressive nature of 19th century French society and the revolutionary aspects of Romanticism and make an Ami hideously OOC or seem like I'm writing just to have sexy revoltionary funtimes instead of presenting it as two autonomous individuals falling in love, let me know? I won't be offended and i will correct it ASAP!

Yeaaah thing is seeing as society is basically homophobic, one cannot say "well their reaction seems homophobic but really it's because of bad slash" because

well

if it quacks like a duck it's homophobia basically if you get what I am saying. I mean there may be an element of "this creeps me out because deep down I am bothered by the objectification of these fictional humans" but the very fact that this causes them to decide that all homo is bad and vapid - as opposed to if one encountered bad het and just dismissed it as a one-off thing - is a result of living in a homophobic society and is a homophobic thing to do. Y'KEN?

ALSO you're like the least indelicate person ever and this rant is soooo not about you in any way, shape, or form - I know this because I am Squeak's braintwin SO NO WORRIES 8)

pps Don't worry we're the least shy ever about going "that's wrong stop it"

also you can IM me if you wanna talk about specifics? 8Da

Man I had an intelligent comment here about how someone once told me slashing Spidey is wrong because it's stereotyping and my mixed reaction to that, but I lost it. I 100% agree with your post, though.
