Sorry to hear your car was vandalized. It happened to our car a few months ago. I think the people were trying to steal it or the tires, and gave up when the car rolled forward off of their jack and the side mirror clipped one of the people somewhere, possibly their head - the police found a trail of blood!!!
Also, a few years ago...our car was broken into and my husband had just taken a significant amount of money out of the bank. He left it in the glove compartment...dumb! The entire back window was smashed to bits.
Whether or not any of us "ask for it", it's still scary and unsettling.
Yeah it was horrible actually, apart from the fact I can't afford to pay for it to be replaced, and I know the police can't do much about it, it was just so unfair and shocking!
It feels kinda odd to experience violence like that... A coupla years ago me, dad, mum and my bro were driving down a main road in town when a carful of Iraqis overtook us, stopped in front of us, got out and began screaming at us, smashing and spitting at the windscreen, trying to get in. We were sort of frozen and dumbfounded! Some of the thoughts that went thru my head challenged my generally "liberal" and pacifist outlook :) We called the police when we got back and they did: absolutely nothing.
I don't think the police will do much either - no one saw their faces or could identify them. They didn't look like huge chavs either, just a group of kids, I think the police picked them up a few streets down and I will have to hope they were mortified. Also I dont understand car insurance, the only difference between making an actual claim and not making a claim while getting it fixed with their recommended company is that if I make a claim - they will clean my car too......... WHAT SERVICE *sigh*!
Funnily, it wasn't scary.. it was more a case of "uh, did that really just happen??!" Haha.. insurance. Gotta love it! It really is the perfect scam. It's funny to think that this financial crisis hinged on a rather perverted form of insurance. Anyway, at least no one's been hurt here! Let's hope those dumb kids wise up and choose more worthy targets for their frustrations next time. God knows I can think of a billion.
