I'm probably a bit slow on this... but I've become fascinated with the short film Rubber Johnny, directed by Chris Cunningham (music by Aphex Twin). Actually, this has made me search out some of their other collaborations, and I'm hooked now.

There's a dvd of Cunningham's work. I think I may have to give it a try at some point.

ye gods. i'm not easily creeped out under any cirumstance, but that video? i can't watch it past the neckless baby-coprse bit. and the dog-child-spirit bit wigs me right the fuck out to start with.

Have you seen any of their other collaborations? Monkey Drummer is pretty fucked up, too. Well, so is Come to Daddy, and Windowlicker for that matter.

I've seen Windowlicker and liked it a lot; never heard of the others.

heh. admitted, the last time i tried to watch Rubber Johnny, i was alone in the dark in the middle of the night, nad our resident ghost/presence had been about all too recently. So, maybe i'll try it again now that i'm not feeling so delicate and precious.

The Cunningham video collection is well put together.

Windowlicker is hilarious.

Oh ye gods-- Chris Cunningham is so amazing. I've always been a fan of his Bjork videos . . . he was also slated for a long time to direct an adaptation of Neuromancer, and I've always thought he was one of the few people on the planet who might have been able to pull it off (last I heard it was on hold).

I think the 2007 International Association for the Study of Dreams conference is going to be there (though there's nothing on IASD's website yet). I've been working up a good deal of material on Sufi dream practices and beliefs. I may end up incorporating it all into my thesis, as well. I'm feeling a strong pull in that direction.
