Rambling and a bunch of nonsense

THIS IS A PUBLIC POST

Yes, I'm still alive, if being buried in homework can be considered living. ;) Life has gotten very hectic this term and hopefully I'll be able to return to my regularly scheduled life next term. If not, well I'll try to pop in from time to time.

Great to see you away from the books and kids for five minutes, Ortho!

As the cool kids say: "Word" to that on the lawsuit problem.

I've been talking for days about stuff over my head, and I've realized (again) why I never went to law school.

But alot of folks are oversimplifying it as well. He did not "just copy JKR's stuff" or "organize JKR's stuff." If that were true, we wouldn't need a Lexicon to embellish and explain what we have in the books.

Your daughter used to be interested in law school and is into HP. Does she have any interest in this case and does it make her more or less interested in a legal career?

Reading all that stuff last night really irritated me. People making snap judgements on little information and none of it unbiased... This is why I'm scared to ever end up on trial. That would be a jury of my peers... *shudder*

Anyway... *waves* Homework is calling me (I really should have done it last night).

Good luck with all the work!

I'm with you - sick of all the name calling by fans who don't know what really happened and what SVA's book really contains. People should give it a rest and let the lawyers do their jobs.

Claire: Yes, that's a good question - my daughter would definitely be interested in this case, and like me, she always has an opinion about everything, lol. She just took a class in First Amendment, and I believe they talked about copyrights. She was home for supper the day after Halloween, but we didn't have time to talk about anything much. This week she is getting ready for a Mock Trial competition in Murfreesboro (Middle Tenn. State Univ.) this coming weekend, so her mind is only on that right now. I'll get her input maybe next week when all of that is over. :)

Nice to see your head sticking out of all those books for a moment, orthoclase. I totally agree about the lawsuit. Why people feel a need to take sides and make rude, hurtful statements about the parties to the suit is beyond me.

To be honest: I enjoy the drama for a certain degree! In (my academic) RL you have to be mature and think twice or thrice before you say something. So sometimes it's a relief to jump to conclusion...

"But I embraced these characters and they became real in my mind."

I'm reading at the moment a lit-theory that comes to your conclusion: texts are not belonging to the authors, they have to share them with the readers or they don't exist...

I've always felt that artists, while doing it for themselves, offer up their art for the masses. I become personally invested in art (especially literature) and once I do it is mine, as well, in my opinion.

Jumping to conclusions is rather against my nature. I don't know why that is so, but it is something that I've never been able to do, that I can recall.
