Zane Story

I've gotten a lot of requests to record Zane's stories, since he chatters off little bits of plot a lot, and often during movies he'll suggest alternate plotlines, heroes from a different movie or game who should dive in and save the day or things like that.

Zane: Scaaary iguanas.

*snerk* Those are some darn scary iguanas!

Septagon, who's a villain who lives on a space ship

And has seven sides!

When Zane first started talking about Septagon, I drew a septagon for him and asked if Septagon had anything to do with that shape. I think that's when Zane first told me that he had an X on his arm. He's stuck by that one feature for months.

Zane hasn't talked about Septagon as much. He's been talking about Deadman. He's an obscure DC hero that I pointed out (along with dozens of others) in the comic Kingdom Come. Zane's also made Deadman his own. Zane's changed his suit from yellow to green and given him a grappling hook and, I think, the ability to throw balls of lightning.

That's a pretty rich narrative for a little guy.

He's all over the map, development-wise, but his imagination is pretty weird. I don't know if I've posted about this, but we didn't know his school had show and tell. When it was Zane's turn, he didn't have anything, so he'd show off imaginary objects (glowing magic rocks) that he'd mime for the other students, who'd pick up the imaginary objects and show them to other students.

His teachers act kind of disappointed when we get him stuff to show off.

Hi! This is Tad Williams. Please excuse the interruption to your regularly scheduled bloggery. People here have mentioned my work, or love fantasy and science fiction, so I just wanted to pop in and say that anyone interested in reading a chapter from my new book, SHADOWRISE, should drop an email to:

deborah.shazam@batnet.com

and we'll send one to you. We won't do anything rotten with your email address, either, we promise. This is real!

Thanks - Tad
