OK, I'm no gun expert, but surely the idea is to get some sort of training so you can use it safely and effectively. If you are in a position where you need to use it (and, tbh, I don't see much attraction in owning one for any other reason) then you can disable (and preferably not kill) your attacker efficiently.
Er, sorry, I come from a place where guns in the home are pretty rare. Guns on the streets, on the other hand...
