What I don't understand is why people are gearing up for a class action lawsuit against Menu Foods. >.> My dog eats dry food anyways, so it's alright on my end...

I'm not prepared to star talking about this aspect of things yet... when the dust settles and no more pets are sick, and we see how those that were sick are recovering, I'll start commenting.

What gets me about stuff like this and the big spinach fiasco last year is how this massive variety of brands all seem to use the exact same raw materials.

And why the hell does anyone need to import wheat? Something the US has a massive surplus of.

Good observation, and good questions.
The sheer size of this recall is what astonished me most of all. It makes me wonder just how many different brands out there in OUR food supply are really from the same places, and how they differ (if at all).

We should all feed our doggies homeopathetique aflatoxin tab-letts.

Only if they're raw and you have a bowl studded with antitoxin healing crystals.

Wait! Are those ORGANIC healing crystals?

Yes, of course they're domestically grown organic all-natural crystals. From a co-op. On reclaimed inner city land.

Very good post with info a lot of pet owners aren't aware of. I agree that I hope this pet food recall thing is over soon. I swear that owners of any pet that has been seriously ill in the past 2 months are questioning the food (even if they didn't eat that food is what gets me the most!) I do have a patient that has severe protein-losing nephropathy that we have been managing since December and now I find out they were also feeding that food. It is so hard to know.

Thank you for the backup. The support is nice. I always worry about being way off or way extreme when I finally open my mouth. I do try pretty hard to keep things under control and in good perspective.

I'm likely to go on a rant about the litigation that's already happening, but at this point I can utterly understand anyone who's had a pet get sick from this food being absolutely enraged. We'll see a clear and reasonable path to take when the FDA figures out -where- the animopterin came from.

Thankfully our clients haven't been TOO outrageous with their claims about the recalled food causing problems with their pets. I know that most vets have had the kind of things you're talking about. I'm also betting that we're going to find out that what we've been calling 'chronic' renal failure for the last few months may have been from the food in some cases.

Botom line: This Blows.
