Rules and Regs - Please read!
Game Rules
Once you have read the rules, please comment to acknowledge that you've read and agree to the rules.
Game Play:
1. Posting: The minimum posting requirement is once every two weeks. This is, though, only a minimum and as such, posting more often than that is most definitely encouraged. The mods do understand that RL happens (as much as we hate it) but we ask that if you need a hiatus that you inform us rather than disappearing. Going one month without posting is grounds for dismissal from the game.
2. Backdating: As the game is played in real-time (July 26th 2008 = July 26th 1087), we expect threads to be posted on the day they're intended to be played on. Threads can take however long you need to finish them, of course. There can be extenuating circumstances and as such, we will allow backdating up to three days following the date the thread should have taken place. If it must go farther back than that, please talk to the mods.
3. Godmodding (or referencing other characters): Do not reference other characters without checking with the player first. Give them a day or two to respond, and if there is no response keep your references vague. Remember that as players, you have insight into every character. Just because Character X may be thinking that your character looks sexy in those new leather trousers does not mean your character knows. Keep all OCC and IC knowledge separate.
Similarly, there is no powerplaying. Do not move characters that do not belong to you without express permission from that player. If you feel someone is taking control of your character, contact the mods.
4. "Realism": Remember that this is 1087, so no referencing ANYTHING modern. We understand that not everyone will say "chamber pot" for "bathroom" or know the ins and outs of medieval culture back then - hell, we don't know the details either. But try to keep it as medieval as possible. Research is by no means required, but probably wouldn't hurt. You don't have to use "thee" and "thou" but refrain from "awesome" and other obvious Americanisms.
4.b. Anything that is obviously not canon (ie mpreg) will NOT be allowed.
4.c. To keep this game "Period" your mods have created a list of spells, potions, and charms that were NOT discovered yet as found here. Please read it and be familiar with it.
4.d. Certain things that happen in a character's life that, in reality, are out of a human's control, will also be out of your character's control. (For example, should your character engage in sexual intercourse, the mods will literally roll a 28-sided die. If you get 13-18, you're pregnant. What you DO about that is up to you.) Anything that is done "to you" by a mod will be announced in the OOC community. While "bad things" may happen to a character that drive the plot and that characters have to react to, we WILL NOT randomly kill off a character (other things, like a marauding band of Muggles destroying your home, though, are fair game.)
5. Spelling & Grammar: We expect all players to use proper spelling and grammar at all times (unless your character requires something unconventional). Britspeak/British spellings is of course welcome, but not required.
About Characters:
6. Journals: Journals are property of
onceuponatimerp. You are welcome to buy your journal paid time, but should you leave the game, we will not reimburse you for any paid time you buy your journal. Buying paid time does not make the journal 'yours'. Also, you are welcome to change your password but the change must be sent to the mods at onceuponmods@gmail.com. All contact information should either not be listed on your user profile or available to friends only.
7. Icons/PBs: While players are not required to use the HP movie actors for a PB, you must pick an age-appropriate model/actor for your character. If you need help finding a PB, ask the mods. We also reserve the right to reject PB choices as well.
8. Relationships: First of all,
onceuponatimerp is het/slash/whatever friendly. All characters are expected to form relationships be they friendly, enemies or of a sexual nature. Shipping should be secondary to plot, but we do know that plots do sometimes require shipping.
Plotting:
9. Game Plot: There will be an overarching plot provided by the mods but all players are expected to incorporate smaller plots into the fabric of the game. Certain plots will require mod approval. These include the invention of new types of magic, anything that establishes game canon (battles, magic, the discovery of a magical creature), major injuries (that would require a stay in hospital longer than a few days), pregnancy or death must be approved.
10. Summaries: We ask that all players try to keep a monthly summary of threads they participated in during the month. Should you decide to leave us (though we can't see why you would) it will make it easier for your successor to know what has been done with the character. However, this is not a requirement.
Other:
11. The OOC Journal:
onceuponooc is for out of game interaction ONLY. While you may post here with your character journal (and actually it makes it easier to know who is talking about what sometimes), do not post with your personal LJ on the RP forum.
12. Age: This is an adult RP with adult themes and adult content. The warning has been posted on the RP itself, but for those of you under aged that ignore that, please understand that if you are not 18 or older we cannot accept your applications. We WILL be checking LJs to verify age. If for some reason you slip through our screening process and you are under 18, we wipe our hands clean. We've given all the warning we can and assume no responsibility from hereon.
13. Application: Under "Other Information" on your application please include the following sentence so that we know that you have actually read the rules and regulations: "Crookshanks was an orange tabby cat."
14. Character Sheet (CS): Please complete and post your character sheet to your profile and
onceuponooc under an LJ cut BEFORE you begin game play. Since the game is mainly other characters (OCs), we need to see that you have a firm grasp of who you are playing. This is also for your benefit to get into the character's head as that makes the actual writing and playing much smoother (and a lot more fun). If we see that you have begun game play before you have posted a character sheet, we will lock your threads until you have completed your CS.
Your Mods:
Your mods are here for you. We are an impartial body that will deal with problems if they arise, but we sincerely hope we never need to step in and mediate a situation. And while your mods may be available, they may not always be around for chat (as we all DO have lives).
If there is a problem, please email the mod account. If you don't talk to us, we don't know a problem exists.
