I'm of the firm belief that Xander was right to not marry Anya-they got together for bad reasons- though he should have picked a better time to decide that than right before the ceremony.

But running away from Giles indicates not just a fear of commitment-it's a very deep-seated belief that he doesn't ~deserve love, respect, or a committed relationship in retun. Those kinds of issues aren't going away overnight; but at least now Xander will talk to Giles about them. Giles should have realized this, from knowing Xander so long; but then, Giles is in love with him, so he probably thinks it's modesty or shyness or something.

I LOVE this pairing, when they're treated like grown-ups and the real problems they have are taken seriously, and not just treated like they orbit the girls. :D
