I'm not sure what our country was thinking when it decided to invade Iraq. According to this Newsweek article, apparently not a whole lot. Hardliners in the Bush administration purged the original occupation team under Lt. Gen. According to Wesley Clark, the Pentagon in 2001 had a five year plan to invade and occupy seven countries, starting with Iraq. Remember, we were already committed to Afghanistan in November of 2001. Apparently there's video of Colin Powell in 2001 stating very plainly that the sanctions had worked, and that because of them, Saddam Hussein was not a threat. Quite a change from February 2003, isn't it?

Sadly, I don't think the UN reception of our call for help was well received, though I can't say that I blame them. After all, we snubbed them by demanding that things will be done our way, as in we HAD to invade Iraq in March, then we declined the offer of help in April, and now we ask for help in the same manner that we started the conflict, that ( Read more... )
